THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services received a boost by Good Heart Foundation Fiji yesterday.
While receiving the gift yesterday, Colonial War Memorial Hospital general manager Soro Toutou said the items — which included surgical, patient and doctors’ gowns, bed sheets, air mattresses, pillow cases, surgical sheets, surgical diapers and drips — would also be distributed to other divisions.
“The hospital cannot run on its own. We have funds from Government, but it’s not enough to maintain the hospital,” Mr Toutou said.
He said CWM was a 93-year-old hospital and the maintenance cost was high in terms of equipment and list of needs that they had was quite big.
“It depends very much to our ‘friends of the hospital’ who normally come and donate to the hospital and organise and co-ordinate what they can in providing to the hospital,” Mr Toutou said.
As much as they are thankful for the assistance, Mr Toutou is requesting “friends of the hospital” to work with the hospital with regards to their list of needs.
“So that you can fundraise according to the needs of the hospital,” he said.
Meanwhile, events co-ordinator for Good Heart Foundation Fiji Penisoni Baleisasa said their organisation focused on helping the poor.
He said a lot of underprivileged people used the hospital and they came up with the idea of assisting the hospital.
“We are looking forward to working with the hospital and the Ministry of Health to help the patients in the hospital,” Mr Baleisasa said.
