Shaman crosses finish line first

THERE was big reception for Shaman which crossed the ANZ Sail Fiji finish line at Port Denarau in Nadi at 8.46pm on Wednesday, 4 days, 9 hours and 46 minutes after the start in Auckland, New Zealand last Saturday.

The skipper of Shaman, Gary Lewis told the sailfiji.co.nz website that they enjoyed their trip.

“For me it was sailing with family and friends,” he said.

“I had two sons on board and my brother. The conditions really suited us.”

Shaman was navigated by Ross Lewis. The crew included Angus Small, Blair Lewis, Kane Mulcahy, Maurice Parlane, Mike Wilson, Peter Geary, Toby Scoones, Wade Lewis and Wayne Spear.

Meanwhile Blink crossed the finish line at 4.47am yesterday, 4 days 17 hours and 47 minutes after the start.

On Monday, Team Vodafone Sailing smashed the ANZ Sail Fiji record to become the fastest boat ever to sail from Auckland to Denarau.

Skippered by Simon Hull, Team Vodafone Sailing finished the 1110 nautical mile race in 59 hours 31 minutes and 3 seconds.

Results (Monohull): 1st Giacomo (skipper-Jim Delegat) 2 days, 22 hours, 53 minutes; 2nd Shaman (skipper-Gary Lewis) 4 days, 9 hours, 46 minutes; 3rd Blink (skipper-Tony Wells) 4 days, 17 hours, 47 minutes; 4rd Ran Tan II (skipper-Brian Peterson) 4 days, 22 hours, 48 minutes; 5th Hupane (Joe Brownlee) 5 days, 49 minutes.
