NEW Caledonia men recorded their fourth consecutive win in the 2016 Handy Finance Oceania Volleyball Championship yesterday.
The side beat Tuvalu 3-0 to finish top of Pool One. New Caledonia won 25-22, 25-16 and 25-20 at the Vodafone Arena.
Speaking through an interpreter, New Caledonia coach Michael Nehoune said he was pleased with the performance against Tuvalu.
“It was a good game against Tuvalu,” he said.
“I’m happy with the performance so far.
“It’s a new and young team so consistency is not there,” Nehoune said.
In earlier pool games, New Caledonia beat Samoa 3-1, Solomon Islands B 3-0 and Fiji Blue 3-1.
Unbeaten New Caledonia has the services of some Europe-based players and is a major title contender for Saturday’s final.
Nehoune said they were aiming for a top two finish.
“The focus now is to reach the final,” he said.
New Caledonia is the defending champion.
In another game yesterday, Tonga women beat Solomon Islands B 3-0, winning 25-10, 25-15 and 25-10.
