Update: 7:32PM A 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Santa Cruz Island region this evening.
The earthquake was 561 kilometres east from Honiara in Solomon Islands, 1089km north-northwest from Port Vila in Vanuatu, 917km from Yaren in Nauru and 1783km from Suva.
It was recorded at a depth of 10km at 6:40pm.
According to the Mineral Resources Department’s Seismology Unit, it was a moderate earthquake with shallow depth source location.
