Update: 11:39AM A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Solomon Island region early this morning but it did not pose any threat due to its depth.
The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 391 kilometres at 2:33am and was 300km northeast from Honiara in Solomon Islands.
It was 1270km north-northwest from Port Vila in Vanuatu and 2090km from Suva.
The Mineral Resources Department’s Seismology Unit said it was a moderate size earthquake with deep depth source location.
Yesterday, a 5.7 and a 5.8 magnitude earthquake were recorded in the Solomon Island region while a 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Vanuatu region.
