ONE of the region’s biggest inflatable water parks, situated at Port Denarau, Nadi, is set to increase in size when its new extension opens on May 1.
Boasting a structure that’s 15m high and fibreglass slides that are more than 400m in length, with a 400,000 litre swimming pool, the new extension is sure to give thrill seekers a ride for their money.
Since its opening in December of 2013, the Big Bula Water Park has had more than 70,000 visitors and Denarau Shuttles Ltd, the company responsible for this gigantic venture, says they’re confident of growing this number even further.
“We’ve had a mixture of people coming to the water park, tourists and locals, and usually at this time of the year when there’s a slowdown in tourist arrivals, we tend to get more locals coming in so we’re looking forward to that,” said Trevor Fox, the general manager for Denarau Shuttles Ltd.
The whole project, including the new extension, costs around $6million. This, according to Mr Fox, signifies their confidence in the Fijian economy.
“Well we’ve been around for a while, as you know we operate Bula Buses Fiji, so yes we are confident enough to invest more money in Fiji and we firmly believe that there’s a lot more to come. When this extension opens in May, there will be something for everyone,” Mr Fox said.
“We’re planning a restaurant within the park.
“As it is we don’t have that so once we do, people won’t have to leave the park to go for lunch. They can bring their families and spend the whole day just kicking back, enjoying the slides and the swimming pools and just having fun,” said Mr Fox.
The new extension was initially planned to open in March. However, the changing of contractors has forced the delay.
“Building something enormous as the new slides takes some expertise, and we’ve had to bring in a few contractors from overseas,” Mr Fox said.
“We’ve changed a few of them a few times but finally, as you can see, it’s taken shape and we’re confident that everyone can start enjoying this new facility from the 1st of May.”
