Shops raided for breach of copyright laws

Update: 12:07PM A TEAM of police officers raided three shops in Nausori Town yesterday following a complaint regarding the sale of copyrighted material.

“Specifically the search was targeted at the three shops for allegedly reproducing and selling of music materials composed by local artists,” said police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro.

“It is alleged the three shops did not have the legal contracts with the composers to distribute their songs and albums.”

Ms Naisoro said the directors and owners of the three shops have been caution interviewed by police.

“Machines alleged to have been used to duplicate the copyrighted work have been seized and are being analysed by the investigating team,” she said.
