I refer to Noleen Billings Hazelman’s letter of January 12, and I must say it was a pleasure reading her rendition of the “local lingo”.
I mean, you know saraga, that wherever in the world you go and you hear certain phases such as … “You know ga” or, “wait mada” or “trues up”, or “true saraga”, you know the person speaking this way is a Kai vata!
Our local lingo is so entertaining and catchy and hey it gets the story across just as we want it to, usually to laughter unless of course the subjects involved are grog doped and then everything is in slow motion!
Aren’t we lucky, we are mostly able to understand some Fijian and some Hindi and speak in a coded language that only we understand!
“Sa yawa all the Fiji gang”!
