YOU are killers and monsters.
Land Transport Authority chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva did not mince his words and was clearly frustrated with reckless drivers “who do not value human life”.
Mr Tuinaceva has even called on the public to report reckless drivers if they witness one.
“Whether they do realise that there is someone waiting for them at home or do they realise that passengers’ loved ones are expecting them (passengers) to arrive home safely or not, is the question they need to ask themselves at all times,” Mr Tuinaceva said.
“If drivers cannot be convinced with these facts, then they are inhuman. They are killers and should be removed from the road.”
His outburst was triggered by the recent accident in Nabukavesi where a 28-year-old woman died. Mr Tuinaceva said the accident could have been avoided if passengers travelling in the same van had spoken against the attitude of the driver.
“What will those passengers who survived the accident say now? Surely, they will be regretting the fact that they or at least one of them should have spoken out against the driver to slow down,” Mr Tuinaceva said.
“Surely there was somebody inside that minibus who was aware of the reckless driving attitude of the driver, but chose to remain silent.”
He said people should, for once, put an end to the silent culture and speak up against reckless drivers while travelling.
“People, irrespective of what type of road users they are, whether a driver, passenger or pedestrians, must not be ashamed to stand up, front up and speak out against dangerous, speeding and reckless driving attitudes.
“These people are monsters. They do not value lives because their own lives do not matter to them.”
