Woodcarvers receive best New Year’s gifts

Update: 1:15PM SEVEN woodcarvers were today thankful to receive what they called the ‘best New Year’s gift’.

The woodcarvers have been struggling with their business having to carve woods
manually to try and meet orders from markets.

Today,
Forest and Fisheries Minister, Osea Naiqamu gave the seven families wood
carving tools to assist them in meeting the market demands.

A
woodcarver, Marika Yalimaiwai, 68, said for the 40 years he had been carving
wood to send his children to school, he has never received any such assistance,
thus today’s assistance would make the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016
the best gift to end and start a year.
