ALISI Koroi Vatuwaliwali loves to serve. She loves to look after her husband, family and people around her. In fact, it is no surprise that with this heart so willing and ready to serve, God led her down the path to do just that — serve.
Originally from Maloku in Moala, she is the wife of Simeli Vatuwaliwali, a missionary. Together with her husband and two-year-old son Joseph, they serve a congregation at Dawasamu in Tailevu.
“I believe the life of a missionary is the most rewarding job in the world,” Alisi, 29, said. “A lot of people dream, but our dreams come to reality because we serve a God that promised to equip us when he called us to serve.”
Last week Alisi and her husband hired a stall at the Nasinu All Nations Christian Fellowship Christmas Festival. Their fresh boiled fish served with fresh coconut milk was one of the popular dishes at the festival, with people coming in numbers just to get a taste.
“The fish we got from Dawasamu. There is no secret recipe here, I cook it the same way other people cook their fish but I believe what makes it taste so good is because of state of the heart of the person who is cooking it.
“My grandmother taught me to cook fish when I was young growing up on Beqa. And she taught me that if you cook it with goodness in your heart, that will make the dish delicious.”
With a family to look after and church members too, it’s a wonder where Alisi gets her energy from.
“It is all God. I thank God for giving me the strength to do the work He has called my husband and I to do.”
And this work includes a beche-de-mer business in Dawasamu. Since it started in 2012, Alisi and her husband have seen the business grow. Last year they were able to purchase three vehicles, including a Pajero.
“We also were able to buy scuba diving equipment and now we have 16 divers who work for us. All this is because of God.
“Like I said, people try a lot of things and dream but when you have someone who is always looking after you, you have nothing to worry about. To us, that is God. He has been forever faithful.”
