IN a bid to address the country’s drowning death toll, the Suva City Council, in collaboration with the Water Safety Council and other stakeholders, will organise a day-long swimming lesson at the Olympic pool in Suva tomorrow.
The swimming lesson is said to be the biggest ever conducted in the country.
A statement issued by the Suva City Council yesterday said it would accept the first 100 students aged between 11 and 18 years on a first come, first serve basis.
The council said this was a free group lesson but children were required to pay an entry fee of $1.
“All swimmers are invited. If you are fearful, do not know how to swim and or if you already know how to swim, you will learn how to swim better,” the council said.
Registration will begin at 11am and the lesson will commence thereafter at 12 midday-2pm.
“At 2pm, there will be a demonstration for adult exercise. You need not be a swimmer.”
Olympic gold medallist Shane Gould and Milton Nelms will be the instructors.
