THE winner of the International Game Fishing Tournament organised by the Denarau Game and Sport Fishing Club (DGSFC) next month will earn direct entry to the Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica next year.
Dubbed as Fiji’s premier fishing event, the three-day tournament is offering a total prize purse of $25,000.
DGSFC secretary Vicki Jones said the tournament would attract many overseas anglers from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
Jones said the registrations would be held at the club’s office at Port Denarau in Nadi on November 5.
“The tournament will be held from November 6-8 with the weigh in at 6pm each evening,” she said.
Meanwhile, a total of $3500 was collected during the DGSFC’s Ladies Pinktober Fishing Championship in Nadi last Saturday.
A total of three boats and seven anglers participated in the event.
Jones said some mahi-mahi were caught while a big marlin was dropped.
“The top angler was Gabby Deilber from Sunshine Coast in Australia,” Jones said.
“Fishing on board Lunasea she scored 54 points. Meegan Smith of the Eastern Coast in America also on Lunasea scored 37.2 points.
“Lunasea was the top team collecting a total of 91.2 points. Gabby and Meegan were both guests on Namotu Island.
“Gabby was not only awarded the 2015 Pinktober trophy but also received a generous voucher from Spa Maya of Port Denarau.
“It was bad luck to the girls on board Oktimokti for dropping a marlin.”
Jones said the money raised would be given to the Fiji Cancer Society.
“We are grateful to the sponsors Spa Maya, SeaFiji, Storck Cruises, Rejuvenation Centre, Fiji Coffee and Baobab Marine for donating the prizes,” she added.
