SUNSHINE Special School of Lautoka and Sigatoka Special School took out top honours in the McDonald’s Westcose Sports and Fun Day at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park yesterday.
Sunshine stamped their dominance when they won nine of the 13 titles at stake in the 5E division while Sigatoka scooped three titles to win the 6D division.
The 5E categories involved schools with a roll of about 100 students with only Lautoka Special, Nadi Special and Sunshine competing.
In the 6D division it consisted of schools with a roll of 50 and below and involved Ba Special, Tavua District, Rakiraki Special, Naseyani Primary and Sigatoka Special.
Sunshine School won the under-19 and U15 soccer, netball, touch rugby, modified cricket, modified bocia, flying disc and the 4x25m relay to win the overall title.
Former champion Nadi Special and Lautoka Special also gave their best but was not enough to down the high flying Sunshine students. Sunshine teacher Vilitati Kina said the achievement spoke volumes of the preparation made by his team.
He said the teachers and students worked together to produce the goods. “We worked really hard this year and I thank the teachers, students and parents for their contribution to restore our lost pride.”
Kina also thanked other participating schools for their effort.
Games president Ana Tuiova also thanked the sponsor for giving the students the opportunity to socialise and have fun.
