CAMPESE Ma’afu knows too well that he would be targeted by the opposition forwards during the scrums at the Rugby World Cup.
The 30-year-old prop said he loved playing for Fiji.
“There is this patriotism, we are Fijians. Just the passion for playing for the country, Fiji gave me the opportunity and I want to give back with all the knowledge and skills that I have and I want to give back to all the people and our country,” Ma’afu said.
Ma’afu said all the matches would be tough and not just the first one.
“All the hardworks in the last two and half weeks has definitely been put in, all the boys have stepped up their game. We have done our homework, just left for us is to stay sharp and get the job done. We cannot underestimate teams such as England, they probably have the biggest pack in the world rugby,” he said.
“We know what to expect. It’s just for us to get our processes right, putting all the hard work we have done in the last two and half weeks into place and work it out.”
Ma’afu said training was intense and the team now needed to stay focus on what the coaches want.
“Great bunch of boys. There is new blood. They have come in and stepped up the pace, keeping the old boys on our toes. A lot of credits goes to the coaching staff and we are really learning. They have put in a play which suits the Fijian flair,” he said.
Fiji plays England on September 19 at 7am.
