THE official opening of the new school hall at Bhawani Dayal Arya College and the Commencement of Ved Saptah in Nakasi yesterday marked a significant milestone for the school, with the facility completed at a total construction cost of about $978,000.

School principal Ranjeeta Kumar said the long-awaited project represents the fulfilment of a vision that began in 1993, when the need for a multipurpose facility was first identified to support school assemblies, cultural programs, sports, examinations and major school and community events.

The fundraising officially began in 1994, with $312,309 raised through various initiatives and a further $205,065 generated through interest.

Walkathons, concerts, food sales and community events brought together staff, students, parents, alumni and well-wishers in support of the project.

Ms Kumar said despite challenges along the way, the vision remained alive through the dedication of successive school leaders, fundraising committees and the wider school community.

The opening was attended by teachers, former and current students, members of the school board, parents, alumni and other members of the school community, who gathered to celebrate the completion of the long-awaited project.
