Day 1 – Pool Play Men Game 5 Fiji v Spain

THE Fiji Airways Men’s 7s side has slipped to third place on the HSBC SVNS Series standings after the completion of the Vancouver 7s tournament at the weekend.

The side was previously placed in second place behind Argentina but has now been taken past by Ireland.

The side has 54 points alongside Ireland, while Argentina leads the table with 78 points. Rallying behind Fiji is New Zealand with 50 points, followed by Australia, South Africa, France and USA respectively.

The side managed to reach the cup quarter-finals where they went down 21-19 to New Zealand before falling short to Ireland 19-24 in the 5th place playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana side remains in 7th place since Perth after reaching the quarter-finals during the Vancouver 7s where they got thumped 35-19 by Australia.

The side currently has 40 points, ahead of Great Britain with only 26 points.

Both our national sides now prepare for the upcoming Las Vegas 7s which will be held this weekend in the United States of America.

The men’s team have been grouped in Pool C with France, Great Britain and Canada while the Fijiana side has been placed in Pool A with New Zealand, Brazil and South Africa.
