7-year-old boy victim of multiple rape over 5 years, three persons charged

Listen to this article:

Two 17-year-old boys and two 21-year-old men were charged with 11 representative counts of rape and three representative counts of sexual assault against a 7-year-old boy.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ stated this in its April 2026 rape and sexual offences statistics.

The alleged offending is said to have occurred on separate occasions between 2018 and 2023, and the cases were later consolidated because they involved the same victim.

In another case, a 16-year-old boy was charged with raping a 5-year-old boy over an alleged incident in 2021.

That prosecution was discontinued through a nolle prosequi after the victim struggled to recall the incident and the parents raised concerns about re-traumatising the child through trial.

The State has referred the matter for counselling for now, while keeping the option to reinstate or refile charges if new evidence emerges.
