Around 6600 individuals have been upskilled on financial literacy by Westpac Fiji in the last financial year.

According to the financial institution, this number surpassed its annual target.

The training is made up of financial first steps for personal budgeting and business basics for entrepreneurs that were conducted in urban and rural communities, including corporate customers and schools across the country.

Westpac Fiji CEO Shane Smith said they were committed to providing free financial literacy training to empower members of local communities.

He said the training helped Fijians make wiser financial decisions with the provision of essential business finance knowledge and practical tips for saving and managing money effectively.

“Now more than ever before, the need to upskill people on financial literacy is vital,” Mr Smith said in a statement.

“We’re proud to continue to offer this training free of charge.

“We believe everyone deserves access to financial literacy and education and we’re pleased to offer these trainings virtually as well.”

Asenaca Raikoti from Natokowaqa Estate in Lautoka had attended one of these trainings and said it had encouraged her to start saving to start a small food business.

Another training recipient Suliana Elizabeth Wise from Navua Women Farming Group said: “I learned things that I usually ignore, especially in noting down all expenses no matter how small.”

The financial literacy training is open to individuals, community groups, customers, and corporate clients and their staff.
