$550 million set aside in 2026-2027 budget under Miscellaneous Services

Government has allocated $550 million under Miscellaneous Services in the 2026–2027 National Budget to fund major cross-government priorities, contingency spending and nationally significant programmes administered by the Ministry of Finance.

According to the 2026–2027 Budget Estimates that will be debated in Parliament this week, the allocation comprises $464.6 million in operating expenditure and $85.4 million in capital expenditure, with all disbursements subject to strict oversight by the Permanent Secretary for Finance.

Among the largest operating allocations is $160 million for the Fijian Scholarship Scheme, followed by $120 million for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Health initiatives.

The Budget also provides $40 million for vehicle leasing, $20 million for transport assistance, $18.2 million to conduct the 2026 General Election, $20 million for a possible referendum, $16.5 million in cash grants from bilateral and multilateral partners, $13.6 million for the Electricity Subsidy to Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) and $7 million for miscellaneous grant-in-aid.

Capital expenditure includes $3 million for the Nadi River Flood Alleviation Project, $5 million for the Infrastructure Development Grant, $3.2 million for the Community Development Programme and $2.3 million for the purchase of new Government vehicles.

The Budget also records major externally funded grants, including $15 million for the Fiji Social Infrastructure Programme supported by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and $8 million for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project.

Direct development partner-funded payments include $36.9 million for the Pacific Healthy Islands Transformation Project, $6.7 million for the Scalable Promoting Rural Prosperity and Economic Resilience (PROSPER) Project, $3.3 million for the Accelerating Trade Facilitation in the Pacific Project, and $2 million for the Pacific Strengthening Correspondent Banking Relationships Project.

The Miscellaneous Services allocation is designed to fund programmes and unforeseen expenditure that require central government oversight and coordination throughout the financial year.
