The minimum wage per hour went up to $5.00 from midnight.
This is a 50-cents increase from the $4.50 that was in place.
The Ministry of Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations said the first increase, from $4.00 to $4.50, took effect on 1st August 2024, giving employers a six-month transition period to prepare for the next step.
“This decision follows extensive consultations with workers, employers, and social partners. is committed to periodic reviews to ensure that wages remain fair and reflective of economic realities,” said the Ministry.
Minister Agni Deo Singh has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strict enforcement and compliance, ensuring that all workers receive their rightful wages.
