46 COVID cases reported in Kadavu; Fiji reports 11 deaths and 485 cases

New COVID cases have been recorded in Fiji’s Eastern Division with 46 cases reported from Kadavu.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong made the announcement tonight in the COVID-19 update saying those cases were all contacts of the index case from Rakiraki, Yale.

He said 45 cases were from the same village and one case was from Naioti Village.

All cases, he said have been isolated.

Fiji reported 485 new cases for the 24-hour period that ended at 8am today – 251 cases are from the Western Division and 188 cases are from the Central Division, and 46 from the Eastern Division.

Dr Fong also reported 11 COVID deaths from August 13-18, with all deaths reported in the Western Division.

Seven deceased persons were not vaccinated and four were not fully vaccinated.

“There have been 14 more deaths of COVID-19 positive patients,” Dr Fong said, and added those deaths had been classified as non-COVID deaths.

Fiji has now recorded 432 deaths due to COVID-19, with 430 of those deaths recorded during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Dr Fong said there had been 1080 new recoveries reported since the last update, which meant there were now 20,591 active cases – 12,050 active cases in the Central Division and 8494 active cases in the Western Division, 1 active case in the Northern Division and 46 active cases in the Eastern Division.

There have been 43,026 cases recorded during the outbreak that started in April 2021; a total of 43,096 cases recorded since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 21,825 recoveries.
