4 deny robbery charges

PLEAS were taken again by four men alleged to have been part in a home invasion robbery two years ago.

Sitiveni Tuisamoa, Samuela Beeby, Alipate Lesi and Peni Tuilaselase again pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery and theft of motor vehicle, as the prosecution amended the information in the charge.

The four are alleged to have entered a home in Davuilevu in 2012 and robbed the owner of cash and items worth $24,000.

In court yesterday, Detective Constable Viliame Sapui gave evidence and said he was the witnessing officer for Samuela Beeby.

He said while he was witnessing Mr Beeby’s caution interview, he was interviewing Peni Tuilaselase.

Mr Sapui said police had to multi-task as there was a shortage of manpower.

In cross-examination, Mr Sapui denied sexually assaulting Mr Beeby with a police baton. The witness also denied that Mr Beeby was assaulted and forced to give a confession.

Constable Solomone Nasilasila also gave evidence and told the court he arrested Mr Tuilaselase from Ellery St in Suva. He said Mr Tuilaselase was arrested, his rights were explained to him and he was taken to Nabua Police Station.

He said there was no force used on Mr Tuilaselase.

The case continues before Justice Temo.
