Nausori residents will soon have access to an apartment hotel and retail complex at the heart of the town’s main business area thanks to a public private partnership between the Nausori Town Council and Shop N Save Supermarkets Ltd.
The approximately 7500 metre squared plot where the old Nausori market once stood will house a six-story development worth $35 million and will contain a supermarket, bakery, restaurants and food court, retail shops and office space alongside the new Ratsun Apartment Hotel.
Executive Director of Shop N Save Supermarket and The Market Development (Nausori) Pte Ltd Nisheel Deo Kisun expressed how thrilled the company is to be taking on this development.
“Shop N Save Supermarket and The Market Development (Nausori) PTE LTD is excited to begin its journey as a proud member of the Nausori Business community, and we look forward to contributing to its overall economic growth,” Mr Kisun said.
“This is a one hundred per cent Fijian owned business that strives to provide the highest standards of service to the various towns and cities that we serve,” he said, thanking the council and ministry for their part in making the project a reality.
The $3,443,750 cheque handover to officiate the partnership was conducted in Nausori yesterday.
Special Administration Chair for Nasinu and Nausori Town Council Uma Kant Patel highlighted that the amount would be reinvested into the town, with the possibility of redeveloping another nearby plot into a commercial centre.
Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, said the concept of public private partnerships of this kind has been proven to benefit the public and the economy worldwide.
“It drives investments, it boosts participation from the private sector and confidence in local government, thereby encouraging more investments to come into Fiji as well,” Mr Nalumisa said.
The project has reportedly employed over a hundred people for construction and will employ about 200 upon completion of the complex.
