Women in Yadua Village have launched an ambitious project to restore their dwindling coral reefs, boosted by a $2500 grant from the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation.
For the coastal community of more than 100 households spread across five clans, the surrounding ocean is the primary lifeline.
Local women rely on daily fishing trips to feed their families, but declining catches prompted the Yadua Village Women’s Club to act at the seabed level.
Club representative Kelerayani Waicula said the funding provides critical momentum for restoring local coral.
“We are blessed, and we want to thank Vodafone ATH Foundation not only for empowering ladies, but because for us living in coastal villages, our lives depend on the sea,” she said.
The financial injection will directly fund community-led reef rehabilitation aimed at reviving local fish stocks and securing the village’s food security.
