A “PRACTICAL Bookkeeping and Understanding Financial Statements Training” by Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) is expected to foster a more transparent, resilient and sustainable business community in Fiji.

Following a recent training that brought together 29 participants from Tavua, Lautoka and Nadi, the programme aimed to strengthen the financial capabilities of women entrepreneurs across the Western division.

In a statement last week, BAF said the training focused on essential financial management skills including recording daily transactions, understanding profit and loss statements, interpreting balance sheets and managing cash flow.

Participant and micro-entrepreneur from Navaki settlement in Nadi, Kala Wati said she joined the training with the intention of better managing her business records.

“I wanted to learn about bookkeeping, keeping records of my business, and having a balanced balance sheet for six months or one year.

“After this training, I can now properly record my cash flow, know exactly where and how much I spend, and how much I can save,” Ms Wati said explaining that she supports her family by sewing eco-bags, pillowcases, cushion covers, and other itens on order.

BAF acting general manager Nitika Singh acknowledged the participants of their commitment to the program.

“We were very proud of the women entrepreneurs who took the time to upskill themselves and understand the importance of bookkeeping and financial literacy,” Ms Singh said.

“These are foundational tools for sustainable business growth.”

She acknowledged the broader work and impact of partner, Business Link Pacific (BLP) in Fiji, particularly in strengthening the MSME ecosystem through accessible business advisory services.

“As BAF continues its build-up towards its 2025 MSME Conference, the organisation remains committed to bridging knowledge gaps and supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises—particularly women-led businesses—across Fiji.

“With more women empowered through financial knowledge, BAF reaffirms its mission to foster transparent, resilient, and sustainable business practices throughout the country.”
