$23.51m for upgrade

A TOTAL of $23.51 million was allocated for the upgrade of Fiji’s sugar mills –– namely the Lautoka, Labasa and Rarawai factory in Ba.

FSC board chairman Vishnu Mohan in his presentation to stakeholders at the miller’s annual general meeting on Tuesday said Ba’s Rarawai mill received an upgrade budget of $9.3 million for the refurbishment of its boiler.

Following an open tender process, Avant Guarde, an Indian engineering consulting firm, was awarded the contract to refurbish the boiler where the mill’s 5MW generator was also repaired.

Mr Mohan said Lautoka mill was allocated an upgrade budget of $6.25 million in the area of instrumentation and controls, to enhance the mill’s production efficiencies.

He added the Labasa mill received $7.96 million for the reinstallation of its shredder.
