Dawasamu Secondary School defeated Khalsa College 7-5 in the Weet-Bix Raluve Championship under-18 quarter-finals on Saturday.

Khalsa College led 5-0 at half-time before the girls from the interior of Tailevu were awarded a try in the 34th minute of the game.

Coach Akariva Ura said the team was focused on reaching the final.

“We were working very hard for the U18,” he said.

“Last year we only reached the national quarter-finals but this year we managed to reach the semi-finals.

“I thank the girls for the hard work and whatever the circumstances that we face we hope to reach the final. For training, since most of them are day scholars and many come from the interior of Tailevu, we only have two hours of training and when we train its physically and mentally within those two hours.

“The Raluve competition really boosts the talents of students and it is also good exposure for some of the girls because some are not performing well in the classroom.

“And some of them do not want to play netball, so most of them involve themselves in rugby.”

Meanwhile, Ura is urging organisers to look into the ground condition for the Weet-Bix Raluve competition.

“We hope to play on a ground that is in a good condition. We thank the supporters, old scholars and the teachers of Dawasamu Secondary School.”
