After the first six games of the 2023 Rooster Chicken/ Scoops Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants football tournament, no team has confirmed a spot in the last four.

In Group B, with two wins and a plus four goal difference, it will take a brave man to bet against the Whites making the semis but they will need to avoid a defeat against Labasa today to confirm their spot.

Rewa has three points from two games and a win against Ba today will strengthen their chances of making the last four.

Labasa is yet to register a point but have two games left to play and no soccer pundit will rule out the Babasiga Lions yet.

Ba also has two games left but with a heavy 3-nil defeat to Suva in its opening match, it will take some good performances from the young Men in Black side to make the last four. In Group A, there’s all to play for as the pool looks wide open.

Navua has two draws and have two points and needs a win against host Nadi to strengthen its chances to qualify.

A stubborn Tailevu Naitasiri side has one point from its opening game and is undefeated in six consecutive matches in all competitions.

Host Nadi were levelled with Lautoka 1-all late in the first spell when this edition went to press last night.

Vuniuci Tikomaimereke put the Jetsetters ahead with a cross which ended up in the Lautoka goal while nippy Afraz Ali got the equaliser for Lautoka.

Fiji Football Association competitions manager Amitesh Pal said it has been a lively tournament so far.

“No team had qualified and the four spots in the semis are still wide open. Tomorrow (today) we are expecting a few teams to confirm their spots as we near towards the last pool games,” Pal said.

He added the tournament has showcased some competitive matches so fa

r. “We have recorded all close games except one where it was 3-nil. Even in that match, Ba played well and could have scored a few goals of their own. It will a very interesting round of games in the next round.”
