Day one of the 2023 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants football tournament ended on a dramatic note last night when the lights at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park went out during the third match.
The fans were entertained to the fullest in the first two games but many went home disappointed after they couldn’t see their teams feature.
The first match between Ba and Labasa was into its first few minutes when the lights went off a little after 6pm.
Referee Nisheel Varman had no option but to stop the match.
According to FIFA rules, the match officials then waited for an hour before a decision was made to call off the remaining matches.
Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal confirmed day two and day three of matches will be played today and tomorrow as per schedule.
“We have called off the last two games on the first day as the situation is beyond our control. The tournament will continue as per schedule on the next two days,” Pal said. Pal confirmed the postponed matches will be played at a later date which they will decide later.
“Fans who have tickets for day one can hold onto their tickets and use it on the day the matches will be played.”
