The Extra Supermarket Labasa football side has got its defense of the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Premium Ice Cream Battle of the Giants football tournament on track after stunning high-flying Concrete Dynamic Limited/ Rams Cleaning Services Suva 2-nil yesterday.
After going down 1-nil to Rewa in their first match, the Mohammed Kasim-coached side bounced back to beat Suva, which had won its opening two matches.
Ilisoni Lolaivalu got the northern ahead late in the first spell after a defensive blunder by the Suva defense. Labasa went into the break leading 1-nil at the break.
Suva had made a number of changes to its main squad using the majority of players from the bench.
Christopher Wasasala sealed the win for Labasa with their second goal midway through the second spell.
Labasa coach Mohammed Kasim said the win came at the right time.
“We lost the first game against Rewa and we thought it was a little unfortunate for us but we went back to the drawing boards and worked on our errors and am glad we got three points against Suva,” Kasim said.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police added the match against Labasa will not be an easy one.
“We will have to be at our best and I hope we can get the required win and qualify to the semi-finals,” Kasim added.
Suva coach Babs Khan said he rotated his players as some of them had yellow cards.
“We used players who had not featured for us in the tournament as some players carried yellow cards. We are hopeful we will make it to the semi-finals,” Khan said.
