Frances Catarogo became the hero of Labasa after netting the winning goal in the grand finale against Rewa in the 2022 Punjas Battle of the Giants Tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka last Sunday.
The son of former Labasa and Nadogo rep Solomone Catarogo dedicated his goal to his father.
“I dedicate my goal to my dad. I am sure this is a perfect Father’s Day gift for him,” said Catarogo.
“I joined Labasa this season from Rewa and I am proud that through my boots, we have created history after failing in the Digicel Fiji FACT final and winning the BOG.
“This win also is also for all the fathers in our team and also to all the fathers around the world.”
The former Lami rep said it was a team effort that got them in the final.
“I am sure no one counted us in but it was all the team effort that we won and I thank Labasa FA officials and coach for having faith in me.”
Catarogo said he waited for the opportunity to be replaced.
“I was just sitting on the bench and wondering if I go on the pitch and score a goal, that would be the best gift for dad as it was Father’s Day. I am sure my parents are proud of my achievement because they support me a lot in my football career.”
Ashnil Raju scored the opener in the first minute of play while Tevita Warainivalu got the equaliser in the 72nd minute after coming off from the bench.
Catarogo scored the winner just a minute before the end of the first spell of the first extra time.
