FIJIAN international lawn bowler Litia Tikoisuva yesterday won the first gold for Fiji lawn bowls team at the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.
Tikoisuva’s win is also Team Fiji’s fifth gold medal at the Pacific Games.
The 56-year-old defeated Shae Wilson of Norfolk Island in the final 21 – 12.
Tikoisuva who last won the gold in the same event at the Pacific Games in Suva in 2003 said it was a sweet victory for her.
“It is very special. I mean I only took part in the singles back in Fiji in 2003,” Tikoisuva said.
“I didn’t take part again in the singles until here in Samoa 2019 which is a great win really and because there are young players that are in bowling,” she said.
“You meet a lot of them and today was anyone’s game and I’m so glad that I won.”
Tikoisuva will be bowling today in the triples with Doreen O’Connor and Radhika Prasad.
Meanwhile, the Fiji lawn bowls team also won gold in the men’s triples, a silver medal in the men’s pairs and a bronze medal in the women’s fours.
The men’s triples defeated Cook Islands 16-15 to win gold.
