2019/2020 National Budget: One single ministry for all youth programs and policies

Listen to this article:

YOUTH programs and policies overseen by different ministries will be moved to one single ministry.

While delivering Fiji’s 2019/2020 National Budget address this evening, Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said there were too many ministries running the same youth programs.

“We are starting up by strengthening our ability to implement youth-focused policies,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Right now, Government is suffering from the classic case of too many cooks in the kitchen.

“Too many different ministries with far too much overlaps and responsibilities resulting in far too little overall impact.

“To streamline implementations, we have taken a number of programs obviously run by other ministries under a single umbrella of one ministry.

“Programs will be more intentional and more impactful and our young people will have a clearer idea of where to go and what they can expect to receive from their Government.”
