ONE of the country’s major motor vehicle distributors, Palas Auto Services Ltd, has spent more than $1million to set up two showrooms in Suva and Nadi this year.
The two-room showroom at the company’s Nadi branch opened last month and houses vehicles manufactured by American company Jeep and German car maker Volkswagen.
Company sales manager Salesh Prasad said they had received numerous requests from customers to set up showrooms.
“The showroom in Nadi cost $250,000 while the Suva one cost us roughly $1.2m,” he said.
The company started business in 1982 with the importation of Japanese used cars only, but has grown to import new vehicles from a number of international brands.
“We are also importing Sino trucks and we are intending to go further with earthmoving machines,” Mr Prasad said.
“The response for the showrooms have been positive, customers are asking why we didn’t embrace this concept before. It gives a different look to the area so people are coming up and having a look on the vehicles.”
