Work on a 19 lot residential subdivision is expected to be carried out at Tavakubu, Lautoka, by the Housing Authority of Fiji (HAF).

HAF chief executive officer Ritesh Singh said this was a separate project from the Tavakubu Subdivision Development on Kashmir Hill which was expected to produce 450 lots.

“The Tavakubu Infill Subdivision contract recently advertised in the newspapers is for a new 19 lot residential subdivision off Link Rd in Tavakubu and is a separate contract from the Tavakubu Subdivision Development on Kashmir Hill,” he said.

“The Kashmir Hill Tavakubu project has been earmarked as one of the five Housing Authority subdivisions and handed over to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for re-development intended to triple the housing product yield.”

He said while funding was being finalised, further expenditure on the Kashmir Hill subdivision have been put on hold.

“Given the above arrangements through the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Housing with the IFC, further expenditure has been paused until outcome of above arrangements have been finalised.

“The contractors for the Kashmir Hill Tavakubu Subdivision Project are still contracted to the Housing Authority.

“The budget for these projects is a contractual agreement between HA and its contractors.”

Meanwhile, the International Finance Corporation is involved in the project through their Fiji Affordable Housing Development initiative which aims to deliver activities that support Government by encouraging private-public partnership solutions to affordable housing.
