About 20 per cent of Fijians are currently receiving financial support from Government under six programs administered by the Ministry of Children, Women and Social Protection.

In fresh data provided to Parliament last week, minister Sashi Kiran revealed 182,160 Fijians have so far been paid $121million under the 2024-2025 budget.

The breakdown for payouts so far are as follows:

  • $11.8m monthly payout to 11,900 Fijians under the Child Protection Allowance;
  •  $245,450 to 737 pregnant women in rural Fiji;
  • $26m to 23,967 Fijians under the Family Assistance Scheme;
  • $7.5m to 13,905 Fijians under the disability scheme;
  • $62m to 56,811 Fijians under the social pension scheme; and
  •  $13.2m to 30,132 Fijians under the Transport Assistance Scheme.

The ministry has a total budget of $171m for the six programs.
