Team Fiji scooped two silver medals yesterday after the men’s and women’s 3×3 Basketball sides competed in the finals at the Pacific Games in Honiara.

The men’s side went down to Guam 19-18 while the women’s lost to Tahiti 11-7.

Fiji men’s skipper Joshua Fox said his side was looking for a second gold at the games but were unable to achieve their target by a single point to Guam.

“We wanted to get a second gold, but unfortunately we were unable to go all the way,” Fox said.

He said despite the close loss to Guam, they were happy to return to Fiji with a silver medal.

“Guam is not an easy team to play, we lost to them in the pool games and were unable to steal the close win from them in the finals. The boys fought hard against Guam, but we came up short by a single point.”

Next in line for the men’s and women’s sides is the Melanesian Cup next year.

“The teams will take a break this month after the games, before we once again prepare for the Melanesian Cup next year.”
