A total of 1697 University of the South Pacific students graduated with certificates, diplomas and degrees last week.
Honouring the students, USP Vice Chancellor Professor Pal Aluwhalia said what they had achieved was remarkable and significant.
“Today is a celebration of your efforts and also a time for us to thank the academic and professional staff who have lectured, tutored you, encouraged and supported you and given you the building blocks to face the world beyond the university campus,” said Prof Aluwhalia.
“By being here today, you have also passed an important test in life, that of hard work, patience, perseverance and determination.”
Celebrating its 56th graduation ceremony this year, Prof Aluwhalia also paid tribute to the university’s success over the years.
“Our top 10 per cent times higher education global ranking has demonstrated that we continue to punch above our weight when compared with the more than 20,000 universities across the globe.
“But as we pursue even loftier heights internationally, we are also requiring ourselves to do things universities often find challenging.
“We want to see our graduates go out into the world as advocates and innovators for our region, equipped to make a contribution and difference to the lives of our families and communities.”
