FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD swimmer Hanna Ruluked represents the next generation, showing promise as one of Palau’s rising swimmers. The emerging young talent proudly representing her island nation is excited and ready to go for her debut at the Oceania Swimming Championship 2026, which starts Friday at the Suva Aquatic Centre.
Hailing from Palau with maternal roots in Japan, the young swimmer was raised in a country where softballs reigns as the national sport but sparked by the influence of her mother, a former swimmer, her path veered towards the water which ignited her passion in the pool. As the youngest on her team, Ruluked carries a quiet awareness that she still has room to grow however she remains grounded with calm confidence in where she stands and driven by what lies ahead.
“I started swimming when I was very young and I go through some hard patches, but it’s really fun,” Ruluked said.
With a heart full of hope and a vibrant young spirit, she is expecting her performance to be very high since it will be her first Oceania Championship Competition and is eager to build more friendships and connections internationally.
As she prepares to dive into the pool at this week’s regional meet, Ruluked embraces the spirit of competition and camaraderie sharing a simple yet heartfelt message: “I hope I have a good competition, and I hope everybody else has a good competition”.
