Thousands of EFL customers across Veikoba, Wainibuku, and Princess Road face a 14-hour planned power outage this Thursday for critical transmission line maintenance.
Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has announced that crucial repair and maintenance works are scheduled for the 33,000-volt transmission line supplying power from the Cunningham Zone Substation.
The maintenance window will run on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 4:00am to 6:00pm, subject to weather conditions.
EFL Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson stated that engineers will temporarily shut down the 33kV transmission line between the Cunningham and Sawani Substations.
“These maintenance works form part of EFL’s ongoing commitment to strengthening and maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of the national electricity network,” Mr Gibson said.
The planned shutdown will cause electricity disruptions across multiple areas, including Veikoba, Wainibuku, parts of Princess Road (stretching from the Dokanaisuva Pumping Station junction to the Waila Treatment Plant Road junction), all adjoining side roads within these boundaries
While EFL plans to finish the project on schedule, Mr Gibson cautioned that external factors could alter the timeline.
“EFL will make every effort to complete the works as scheduled and restore power supply as soon as possible,” he noted. “However, customers are advised that power supply may still be affected by any unforeseen faults on the generation, transmission, or distribution network during this period.”
Unfavourable weather conditions will result in an immediate postponement, and EFL will update the public accordingly.
The public is urged to exercise extreme caution near electrical infrastructure during the maintenance period.
“Members of the public are strongly reminded to treat all power lines as live at all times. Maintain a safe distance from fallen or damaged lines, as they may become energised without notice.”
EFL extended its apologies for the disruption, stating it “sincerely appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all affected customers as we continue to maintain the reliability and stability of the national electricity network.”
