THE Indonesian government is injecting $12 million into the revival of the regional training centre and demonstration farm at Dobuilevu Research Station in Ra.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted this during an interview with the members of the media in Sabeto, Nadi yesterday.
“That is a program that has been on-going in Dobuilevu,”Mr Rabuka said.
“They have decided to participate in that program and inject $12 million for its resurrection and for it to move forward.”
Mr Rabuka said Indonesia had decided to help in the agriculture sector in Fiji’s development.
“Because we have seen that their growth from fishing ports and agro based economy to what they are now, they have grown very well, but their population is also growing very quickly.
“So the (Indonesian) President has made a commitment towards feeding that new population to make sure that food security in Indonesia is safe.
“They want all their development partners to learn from their example and they are willing to give grants to countries like Fiji that have stood with them, and they have stood with Fiji during our difficult moments in 1987 when our traditional partners Australia, New Zealand and the United States turned away from us.
“They respected our sovereignty and stayed with us.
“So, this is a further demonstration of their commitment not only to Fiji but to the Pacific.”
