A total of 11,271 Fijians left the country between January and September this year to work overseas, states data available on the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBOS) website.
They are overseas for work engagements that range between three months and a year – while some have secured five-year job terms.
A majority of those leaving Fiji to work overseas were headed to Australia, according to the FBOS data.
In September, 1516 Fijians left the country to work overseas, out of which 926 were expected to be gone for a period ranging from one to five years.
The document stated 701 Fijians went to Australia and 487 to New Zealand.
Another 1557 Fijians left Fiji in August, with 531 headed to Australia and 408 to New Zealand.
It stated of the 1505 Fijians who left Fiji for work purposes in July, 577 departed for Australia while 543 went to New Zealand.
In June, 3109 Fijians left the country, out of which 2370 departed to work overseas for a period ranging from one to five years.
Of this number, 1292 went to Australia, 996 to New Zealand, 244 to the USA and 261 to Asia Another 1423 Fijians went away in May while 1581 departed in April.
In March, 1065 Fijians left the country to work overseas, 788 in February and 308 in January.
