DRASA FSC in Lautoka recorded the country’s lowest temperature of ten degrees yesterday, the Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi confirmed.

The weather office said this reading was taken between 3-4am.

Monasavu Dam recorded the second minimum temperature of 12.5 degrees, while Nadi International Airport recorded 13.4 degrees and Suva 19.7 degrees.

Laisa Meo, 17, a student of Suva Muslim School, said the cold weather could not be helped and people should take all necessary steps to stay warm.

“It has been pretty cold lately but there’s nothing we can do about it but enjoy it and stay warm,” the Suva Muslim School student said.

The weather office stated that a high pressure system to the far southwest of Fiji directed a cool south to southeast wind flow over the group.

Ms Meo said these next few weeks were important ones for students as they prepared for their end-of-term examinations.

“I can’t wake up early in the morning to study because it’s too cold, but I make sure I stay up late at night to revise.”

The weather office forecasts fine weather apart from brief showers over the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands, with a cool night today.
