$1.4m for capital purchases

Government has allocated a sum of $1.4 million towards capital purchases for the Department of National Trade Measurement and Standards in the 2023–2024 National Budget.

This, according to Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprises manager policy Virisila Tuimanu.

Officiating at the opening of Metrology Week at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) on Monday, Ms Tuimanu said Government was committed on improving quality infrastructure systems in place.

“Especially in the area of standardisation and metrology,” she said.

“As the national agency responsible for metrology-related activities, it is important that the department is aligned to changes in the global arena.

“In this regard, we have commenced the review of fundamental legislation that provides the regulatory framework for Qis, namely the National Trade Measurement Act 1989 and the Trade Standards and Quality Control Act 1992.”
