The youth of Saioni Methodist Church in Kalabu Housing rallied together to assist fellow residents struggling to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic by organising a food drive.
Youth member, Ma’ake Tabua, said the assistance was provided by donors from family and friends abroad and locally.
“The response so far from donors and recipients was overwhelming that we plan to host another food drive this month,” Mr Tabua said.
“So far 18 families had been assisted with food rations and we hope to assist other families soon, but with proper planning and donations from good Samaritans.
“Kalabu Housing is a community comprising Public Rental Boards (PRB) and housing residence with minimum or no wage source at all and this is our way of helping them.”
Mr Tabua said any donation in cash or kind would go far in helping relieve the burden on struggling families in their community.
“We are not asking for much seeing that everyone is being affected right now so if you can spare an extra packet of noodles or salt at home that can assist for a meal towards a family in need.”
