Youth forum for nation building

PARTICIPANTS from as far as Rotuma flocked in to be part of a three-day Provincial Youth Forum of Fiji Capacity Building workshop held in Toga, Naqavoka Village in Rewa.

The meeting that began on Tuesday was an opportunity for participants representing the 14 provinces in the country to contribute ideas on how they can help move the country forward.

Provincial Youth Forum president Kaminieli Sadrata said the aim of the three-day workshop was to optimise service deliveries and communications, both policy and practice.

Mr Sadrata said the meeting was also a good time for participants to reflect on their work and on areas that needed to be improved.

He said different topics and issues were highlighted during the meeting, adding he was overwhelmed with the response received from the 30 participants who were part of the workshop.

“This main capacity building objective is for the leaders from all provincial councils to identify issues within the different provinces and along with the issues that existed between the two bodies — the iTaukei Affairs Board and the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” Mr Sadrata said.

He said during their workshop, they outlined nine different strategic plans where participants were encouraged to give their views and ideas on how they would be able to meet and achieve the plans outlined.

“Our plan includes getting our young people to be involved in enhancing human security and to communicate with relevant stakeholders, and rural and urban partnership for active participation.”

Mr Sadrata said at the end of the meeting, they required participants to disseminate what they had learnt during the meeting and perform specific roles outlined in their job descriptions.
