Important announcement:
Last week it was announced that Tahiti versus Fiji would take place on November 7, 2015. FABA wishes to advise everyone that, due to some scheduling conflicts on the part of the Tahiti team, the event will now take place on November 1 at 6pm at the National Fitness Centre in Suva.
Now that we have that out of the way, welcome again, to “The Rumble”. This week, for something different, we’re going to have a look at why boxing training is the best exercise for you, whether you want to compete or just get fit.
High intensity
Boxing is high intensity training meaning you burn calories for hours after the training session has ended. Typical cardio activities do not have this effect so, boxing is your best friend when it comes to losing weight.
Muscle tone
Boxing is perfect for toning up because it’s fast repetitive movements produce toned, taut muscles. Contrast this with the slow, controlled, very heavy movements involved in body-building that produce ungainly size or bulk.
Strong bones and ligaments
Boxing relies on body weight exercises such as pushups, pull ups, lunges, burpees and various other exercises strengthening your joints, tendons and ligaments. Using your body weight also helps you maintain or increase your lean muscle mass which keeps your metabolic rate burning at maximum capacity.
Cardiovascular fitness
Boxing makes your heart and lungs pump blood containing oxygen all around your body testing your cardiovascular system. This forces your body to adapt by making your heart and lungs better at delivering oxygen meaning you can train at an even higher intensity.
Muscular endurance
Boxing fatigues you like nothing else, building your endurance. Eventually, your muscles will keep contracting for longer durations without getting tired, allowing you to train harder for longer and ultimately burn more calories.
Core stability
Boxing is all about balance and core stability. The fast rotational movements require that your core muscles develop to allow you to punch hard without losing your balance.
Strength and power
Boxing is the ultimate full body workout. Correctly thrown punches use almost every muscle in your body and, punching against resistance causes all of these muscles to contract with more force and speed, further developing your strength and power.
Stress relief
Punching a punch bag in a safe, controlled environment will leave you calm and relaxed, ready to tackle whatever curve ball life throws at you next!
Improved co-ordination and body awareness
Total body exercises require a good connection between your brain and your body.
With patience and practice, this focus and discipline can transfer over to other sports and activities.
Improved confidence and self-esteem
Last, boxing training just makes you feel better because it provides all of the above benefit’s which all combine to build your self-confidence.
