Breast cancer has claimed the life of a 17 year-old girl, says CWM Hospital head of surgery Dr Josese Turagava.

He said this was youngest breast cancer death they have recorded.

He highlighted this issue while speaking at the launch of pinktober at the hospital’s lecture theater in Suva yesterday.

Dr Turagava said another major concern was the age range of women diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Most of the cases now are women below the age of 25,” he said.

He said the behaviour towards breast cancer needs to change.

Out of the 600 cases of cancers recorded every year, 200-300 are breast cancers.
