YEAR 12 student Mere Mafi Sigavunau was overcome with surprise and tears of joy after being crowned Miss FMF Duavata 2026 at Subrail Park in Labasa.
Ms Sigavunau, who represented Security Shield Services, received the crown during the closing of the FMF Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival on Saturday.
The emotional moment followed a week of advocacy, with contestants raising awareness about issues affecting communities, including drugs and substance abuse.
She thanked her fellow contestants for their support and for sharing the journey with her throughout the carnival.
“I also want to thank my fellow contestants. It has been a great pleasure to stand with you, and it has been quite a journey to share with you,” she said.
Ms Sigavunau acknowledged her parents and friends for their “endless love, support and encouragement”.
She also recognised her cousin, Josh, for supporting her throughout the competition.
She said winning the crown was a privilege and promised to carry the title with pride.
“Being crowned tonight has been a pleasure, and I promise to wear this crown with humility and dignity.”
The carnival concluded after a week of advocacy, competitions and community activities aimed at promoting crime prevention.
